Summer Internship

Computer Engineering Internship Guideline

A Computer Engineering student is required to complete two separate compulsory internships, each lasting at least 20 working days, during the semester break following the second and third years, or during the summer vacation. Students must register for the internship course in the academic semester following the period in which they complete their internship. After the first internship, they register for CMPE 399, and after the second internship, they register for CMPE 499. The internship institution must be found by the student on their own initiative.

Criteria for Eligible Internship Institutions

  • Universities (except for Technopark companies) cannot be internship places.
  • The internship must be done in an IT company or in the IT department of an institution.
  • There must be at least one Computer Engineer in the institution.
  • The student cannot do the internship in a company they have founded themselves.

General Rules

  • In order to start compulsory internships, the prerequisites of the courses must be considered.
  • The two compulsory internships cannot be combined into a single 40-day internship in the same institution; they must be done separately. If it is the same institution, it must be stated that the work will be carried out in different departments and with different tasks.
  • Compulsory internships cannot be done online. However, in compulsory circumstances, hybrid work is allowed provided that the company informs the Internship Coordinator by email.
  • Two different compulsory internships cannot be done in the same summer. If the student is in graduation status, departmental approval is required.
  • Compulsory internships cannot be carried out during the academic semester. Summer school and internship cannot be done at the same time. The period between the end of summer school and the beginning of the following semester (add-drop week) can be used for internships.
  • To be able to register for CMPE 399 or CMPE 499, the student must have completed their internship. It is not possible to register for the course first and then start the internship.
  • At the end of the internship, evaluation forms must be submitted in a sealed envelope; unsealed forms will not be accepted.
  • The work carried out during the internship must be reported within the scope of the CMPE 399/CMPE 499 course. Students must follow the course announcements for the submission of evaluation forms and reports. Reports, presentations, schedules, and evaluation criteria required within the course will be specified in the syllabus at the beginning of the semester.
  • Internship reports prepared according to the Internship Report Draft will be evaluated within the scope of the Internship Evaluation Guideline.

Internship Process

  • The student makes an agreement with the institution where they will do their internship and fills out the Compulsory Internship Approval Form (KYS-FR-84-CompulsoryInternshipApprovalForm) (signed and stamped by the institution) and submits it to the Internship Coordinator via MyTEDU Portal.
  • The internship can only begin after the Internship Coordinator’s approval.
  • At the start of the internship, the student must provide the institution with the Intern Evaluation Form (KYS-FR-17_InternEvaluationForm) to be filled out at the end of the internship.
  • The Intern Evaluation Form must be submitted in a sealed envelope by the student to the Internship Coordinator at the beginning of the semester, along with course registration. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure the form reaches the relevant faculty member.
  • Students doing voluntary internships are required to submit only an internship report; the evaluation form is not requested from the institution.
