At the Young Minds New Ideas (Genç Beyinler Yeni Fikirler – GBYF) Ankara 2026 competition, hosted by TED University in collaboration with the Ankara Branch of the Informatics Association of Türkiye (TBD), our students successfully completed the project they carried out under SAYZEK (Defence Industry Artificial Intelligence Competence Cluster) and secured a place among the top 5 projects. Our student team – Türkay Selim Delikanlı, Mert Temur, Metehan Can and Aysel Arpacı – presented their award-winning project, “Hybrid Intelligence for Deep Semantic Analysis of UAV Thermal Imagery in Closed Networks,” to all participants of the event.
The project introduces a hybrid artificial intelligence system that moves beyond simple object detection in UAV thermal imagery to deliver interpretation at a tactical level.
The academic and industrial supervision sustained throughout the project played a decisive role in the team’s success. Academic supervision during the development of the project was provided by Prof. Dr. Gökçe Nur Yılmaz, faculty member of the Department of Computer Engineering at TED University. Industrial supervision was undertaken by Hüseyin Arslan of TÜBİTAK SAGE, whose sectoral perspective and technical guidance contributed significantly to the project.
